The perfect setup – protection for the whole home and simple to use – we setup a “2″ level for our home for my 9 and 11 year old sons. Best thing to happen to connected homes with kids…..maybe ever!

Very simple parental controls app. Three levels of support using Norton ConnectSafe. This is a worth the .99 cents for this app.

If you have kids that can use the internet this is one of the many Apps I would get for my Linksys Smart Wifi Router.

Easy easy. Vvery happy.

FAQ

How do I know the filter is working?
To see if there is a problem with the filtering service itself, please visit http://status.nortondns.com/. Green checkmarks in all rows of the first column indicate the filtering service is functioning normally.

To see if the filtering is currently in effect on any particular device visit http://setup.nortondns.com/. The green OK icon indicates filtering is currently active for that device. A red X icon indicates that filtering is not active for the network or not yet active for that particular device.

Note that if you have just applied a filter level it may not be immediately visible (see below).

Why isn’t the filtering working for me?
Due to various levels of caching filter settings may take up to 48 hours to apply to all sites and all devices on the network.

Ensure that your device is connected to the filtered network and does not have other network connections active (e.g. 3G, wired ethernet, etc).

Ensure that your device is not configured to use other custom DNS servers.

Note that Block the Bad Stuff is not compatible with some ISPs, including AT&T U-verse.

Why isn’t a particular site being filtered?
First ensure that filtering is active and working for your particular device.

Due to the ever changing nature of websites it’s possible that any given site may not be included in the filter blocklist. The filter blocklists are continually and automatically updated, powered by the Norton Safe Web database and the Symantec RuleSpace service.

Can I unblock a specific site?
No; filtering is provided at the category level only. Please choose a different filter level to enable access to blocked sites.

For additional information see the Norton ConnectSafe FAQ at https://dns.norton.com/dnsweb/faq.do

What routers are supported?
Block the Bad Stuff works with all Linksys Smart Wi-Fi routers (model numbers begin with “EA”) as well as the E4500v2.

What devices can run the Block the Bad Stuff application?
Block the Bad Stuff currently runs on any iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch). An Android version should be available in January.

How does Block the Bad Stuff work?
Block the Bad Stuff programs the DNS servers of the router. These servers are updated by Norton and provide the filtering for all devices connected to the network.

What do I need to know before enabling Block the Bad Stuff?
When you use Block the Bad Stuff to change your router settings to enable or disable filtering the router will reboot causing all clients to reconnect. This could potentially temporarily disrupt service for other users of the network, for example if someone is streaming a movie or playing an online game.
